What is love? It’s a tough question, but one that has been debated by philosophers, psychologists, and even poets for centuries. In the simplest terms, love is a feeling of deep affection. It can also be defined as a feeling of strong attraction for another person. Love may also refer to an act of attachment or devotion that is emotional or sexual in nature. You might see it celebrated on Valentine's Day each year. While most people think about romantic love when they see the word "love" used in a sentence, there are many other types of love. Loving yourself is loving your whole self no matter what you look like. It’s accepting who you are and giving yourself positive thoughts. Loving yourself is treating your body with respect and care. Loving yourself is caring for your mind by learning new things, taking constructive criticism, and staying positive. You can also show love to yourself through hobbies and creative outlets, such as drawing or writing poetry. Self-love is important so that you don't fall into the trap of believing that you aren't good enough or that you need someone else to feel whole. It's important so that you recognize your good qualities, and keep working to improve them. Self-love is also about honoring your differences and celebrating your unique traits. Being in a healthy relationship can be like a second chance at love—a chance to deeply appreciate the magic of the relationship you already have. Being in a healthy relationship can be like having more of what you already have; it opens up opportunities for learning and growth that might not open up otherwise. A healthy relationship can be seen as an opportunity for more love, not less. A healthy relationship is more than just romantic; it can be familial or platonic. A healthy relationship is one that allows you to be your true self. It encourages personal growth, not selfishness or greed. It creates opportunities for love and learning, not fear and criticism. Love, healthy love, fosters trust and honesty rather than manipulation and jealousy. Love is an active choice to commit to someone else’s happiness even if it means sacrificing your own. It is not a feeling; it's a choice. Love is action—it’s about standing up for someone, sticking by them through good and bad, and always coming back. Love isn’t perfect; it has its ups and downs. And love isn’t always easy; it takes hard work to nurture and sustain relationships of all kinds. Loving someone (or yourself) often means putting their (your) needs before yours and working at making things better. Love is something that we give to or get from other people, but it has also been used in the context of the Divine. Martin Luther King Jr. cfa1e77820
